June 19, 2007What Defines Gourmet Coffee? What Defines Gourmet Coffee? Although millions of people love a good cup of coffee, there are people who prefer to drink only gourmet coffee. In this day of fancy coffee beverages, some people find it tough to define exactly what is gourmet coffee is. Coffee is grown in a large number of places throughout the whole world. It does not really matter where the coffee starts out being grown. This is because all coffee beans go through a typical process universally. To start with, the beans are picked, and then dried, and finally sorted in basically the same way all over the world. Where you will find some differences, is in the climate and with the elevation the beans are exposed to depending on what part of the world the beans are grown in. Not to mention which if any pesticides are used by the coffee farmer on their coffee crop. Another important factor that comes into play is the roasting process used on the beans. In fact, the roasting process is by far one of the most important elements in creating coffee. If the coffee beans are under roasted, the coffee may be too weak and if they are over roasted, they can leave coffee with a very unpleasant burnt taste. One of the most sought after, yet hardest coffee’s to get your hands on these days is Jamaican Blue Mountain. It is not easy to come across because of the hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico. The reason this particular coffee is desired is because it has a glorious, rich aroma and taste. This is thought to be one of the best flavored coffees in the entire world, when it is roasted properly. Therefore, this coffee can be considered Gourmet. Coffee can also be considered Gourmet when the roasters take the extra step of implementing chocolate syrups, caramel and other additives for flavor to your coffee. This allows the coffee a unique taste, which can then let the coffee, be known as Gourmet. Many define Gourmet as being an exceptional food or beverage that is deemed by experts as being superior. By this token, if a known coffee expert declares that a particular brand of coffee is superior, than it is thought to be so by the masses. People believe that if an expert is willing to say that something is top of the line and a Gourmet product, then it must be so. People throughout the world are very serious about their coffee and what they like, and do not like. As you may have noticed, when a coffee is deemed by the masses as being Gourmet, it is often in very high demand. For this reason, coffee that is considered to be Gourmet is often a lot more expensive than coffee that is just thought to be ‘regular’. Gourmet coffee can be many times more expensive than a regular coffee. Although costly and in high demand, Gourmet coffee is not usually that hard to find. Numerous people consider the best source for Gourmet coffee to be purchased from a Coffee Roaster of which there are many thousands you can choose your coffee from. Every Coffee Roaster has different methods, recipes and ideas about how to best create the perfect Gourmet blend of coffee. The most ideal thing about purchasing from a Coffee Roaster is knowing that your coffee will always be freshly roasted. You can also purchase Gourmet coffee from many specialty shops, some cafe’s and even if necessary at the grocery store, although some would advise against that. It all depends on what your personal Gourmet coffee preferences are.
